UGCUser-Generated Content

UGC is creator-style content (testimonials, unboxings, demos) used as ad creative. Originally human-produced; now also AI-generated.

What does UGC actually mean?

User-Generated Content (UGC) in advertising means creator-style video that looks like an authentic person reviewing or using a product, rather than a brand-produced commercial. UGC ads outperform branded ads on TikTok and Reels because the format matches the platform's native content.

Traditional UGC is filmed by paid creators, micro-influencers or actors. Creator marketplaces such as Clip list roughly $124–$199 per video. AI UGC, which crossed the paid-social threshold in 2024-2025, uses AI avatars to generate testimonial-style videos at a fraction of the cost. The 2026 reality is hybrid: most performance teams ship a mix of human-filmed UGC and AI UGC, testing each against the same brief.

Meta and TikTok require disclosure of AI-generated people in some contexts. Best practice is to include a discreet 'created with AI' tag on AI UGC, especially for testimonial-style content where misrepresentation could be a regulatory issue.

Example

A skincare brand runs three TikTok ads: one filmed with a human creator, two generated with an AI UGC video tool such as Arcads. All three test against the same brief; the top-performer drives the next month's spend.

When it matters

UGC has the highest CTR on TikTok and Reels. AI UGC delivers volume that human production can't match, but disclosure and quality matter for sustained performance.
