Spark Ads

Spark Ads on TikTok promote organic creator posts as paid ads, preserving the creator's handle and engagement signals.

What does Spark Ads actually mean?

Spark Ads is a TikTok ad format that promotes existing organic posts as paid ads, rather than uploading creative directly to the ad account. The post retains its creator's handle, engagement (likes, comments, shares) and discoverability, so it looks and behaves like native content.

Spark Ads outperform standard In-Feed ads on average because users perceive them as creator content rather than brand advertising. They also benefit from organic engagement that accumulated before the post was boosted. Most TikTok creator-collab campaigns now run as Spark Ads rather than uploaded creative.

Setup requires the creator's authorization (a one-click approval in TikTok Creative Tools). For AI UGC at scale, some advertisers run a creator handle as their own brand-owned account, posting AI UGC organically and then boosting top performers as Spark Ads. This blurs the line between organic and paid in interesting ways.

Example

A creator posts a UGC review of a skincare product organically on TikTok. The brand authorizes Spark Ads on that post and runs $2,000 in promoted spend behind it. The post keeps its 12K likes and 200 comments, looking native to the For You Page.

When it matters

Spark Ads consistently outperform direct ad uploads on TikTok by 20-40% CTR. They're the dominant format for creator-collab campaigns.
