CTRClick-Through Rate
CTR is the percentage of impressions that result in clicks. It signals creative resonance and ad quality.
CTR = (Clicks / Impressions) × 100What does CTR actually mean?
Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the share of impressions that produce a click. It's a direct creative-quality signal: stronger hooks and more relevant offers earn higher CTRs.
Meta CTRs in 2026 typically run 0.5%-2% for cold prospecting and 2%-5% for retargeting. TikTok CTRs run lower (0.3%-1.5%) but conversion rates tend to be higher per click. Google Search CTRs run much higher (3%-10%) because the user is actively searching.
CTR matters beyond the immediate click. Meta and Google both factor CTR into ad relevance scores, which affect future delivery costs. Low CTR ads pay higher CPMs over time as the platform deprioritizes them. Conversely, high-CTR ads earn cheaper distribution.
Example
An ad got 50 clicks from 5,000 impressions. CTR = (50 / 5,000) × 100 = 1.0%.
When it matters
CTR is the fastest creative quality signal. Pause low-CTR ads quickly; double down on high-CTR ones before they fatigue.
