Product feed

A product feed is a structured data file (CSV or XML) listing your product catalog (title, description, price, image, link) that powers DPA and Shopping ads.

What does Product feed actually mean?

A product feed (or catalog feed) is a structured data file containing your product catalog. Required fields typically include: product ID, title, description, link, image link, price, availability, brand. Optional fields support product categorization, multiple images, sale price, GTIN/MPN, and custom labels.

Product feeds are the data layer for Dynamic Product Ads (DPA), Google Shopping, Performance Max, Meta Advantage+ Shopping, and Pinterest catalog-based ads. Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Magento all generate product feeds automatically; standalone catalogs use Google Merchant Center, Meta Catalog Manager or feed-management platforms (DataFeedWatch, Feedonomics).

Feed quality determines DPA performance. Common issues: missing or low-resolution images, weak titles (lacking keywords buyers search), incorrect availability (out-of-stock items still showing), and stale prices. Most performance teams audit feeds monthly and use feed-optimization tools to improve titles, GTINs and image quality.

Example

A Shopify store generates a product feed via the Meta Pixel app. Meta Catalog Manager pulls 200 products with titles, descriptions, prices, links and images. Advantage+ Shopping campaigns serve those products as DPA ads to retargeted users.

When it matters

Product feeds are the data foundation of catalog-based ads. Feed quality bottlenecks DPA, Shopping and Advantage+ performance.
