Daily budget
A daily budget caps how much a campaign or ad set can spend per calendar day. The most common budget-setting structure on Meta, TikTok and Google.
What does Daily budget actually mean?
A daily budget is the maximum spend limit for a campaign (CBO) or ad set (ABO) within a single calendar day. Platforms can spend more than the daily budget on a strong day (Meta up to 75% more, Google up to 2×) while keeping spend over the week (Meta) or month (Google) in line with the budget.
Setting a daily budget is the dominant approach because it gives predictable monthly spend (daily × 30) while letting algorithms adjust within the day. The alternative, a lifetime budget, sets a total spend over a defined window. Lifetime budgets are useful for time-bounded campaigns (a 7-day product launch) but harder to manage for evergreen performance.
Daily budget sizing matters. Very small daily budgets make it hard for Meta's algorithm to exit Learning Phase, so size each ad set's budget against your CPA and the conversions you need per week. In a fair creative test, each ad set should get the same daily budget.
Example
A DTC brand sets $300/day daily budget on a CBO campaign with 5 ad sets. Daily delivery typically averages $310 ± $50 across days; the algorithm reallocates between ad sets within the day to maximize conversions.
When it matters
Daily budgets are the default budget structure for evergreen campaigns. Use lifetime budgets for time-bounded launches.
Related terms
CBO
CBO sets a single budget at the campaign level; Meta auto-distributes across ad sets based on real-time performance.
ABO
ABO sets budgets at the ad set level rather than the campaign level. Used for testing where each ad set needs guaranteed spend to produce signal.
Cost cap
Cost cap is a Meta bid strategy that limits maximum CPA. The platform spends as much as possible while keeping CPA at or below the cap.
Advantage+
Advantage+ is Meta's AI-driven campaign suite (Shopping, App and Sales) that automates audience, placement and budget decisions.
